I’ve done a SmartyPig review previously but they’ve made some changes for the better since then. They have removed the $5 fee for external contributions. They also have removed the $25 fee to get your money out as a check rather than their standard of having to get a gift card. They are also going to add the ability to just withdraw your money from your SmartyPig account back to your funding account. If you do take your money as a gift card you can get a bonus of up to 5% depending on the retailer. This was already a good deal with them paying 4.3% on your money but now it is even better.
