Do you know if Chase historically does a hard credit pull on checking apps? I just received the following from a chase CSR, but i’m not completely convinced.

“In response to your inquiry, we do not obtain any credit
information when processing checking account
applications. The opening of a checking account is
determined on whether you owe other financial institutions
as well as unpaid outstanding checks.

If you require further assistance, please e-mail us via
the Secure Message Center or contact Chase By Phone at
1-800-935-9935. Chase By Phone representatives are
available to assist you 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM, seven days a
week with automated account information available 24-hours
a day.

Thank you,

From what I have read Chase does only a soft pull for checking apps.

Edit. Sorry but now I have also seen that Chase does a hard pull for checking apps. I\’m not sure which is correct.

Went to open the on-line account (can’t do the $100, since it’s not avail in CA) anyway, it says:

Note: You will receive statements by mail, but no cleared checks or check images. This is a FREE service. Your first box of checks will be ordered for you. They will arrive 7-10 business days after your account has been processed. Your account will be charged $22.95.

This makes the net bonus only $52.02 ($75-$22.95)

This is true but I\’ve heard that if you write on your signature card \”Do not order checks\” they will not send them. I\’ve also heard of someone returning the checks to their local branch and receiving a refund. These may not work for you but they are worth a try.
